Time of Renewal

If you follow me on Instagram you probably know that we had a little getaway weekend.  It was glorious! Every year around Valentine's Day we go away for a few nights, just the two of us.  We started going it a few years ago because we didn't really do anything for our Christmas or anniversary because it's the same time as our kids birthday and life is just crazy then.  So we decided to this time of year is perfect for us.  It's a little more calm and a little extra change in our pockets.  Off we went to a local small city for the weekend.

All weekend was about us, well mostly my husband spoiling me.  We relaxed, shopping, ate, got pampered, and just spent quality time alone together.  Reconnecting and enjoying our love for each other.  Time to just spend time with out stress, time schedules, etc.  It was so wonderful!  We highly recommend this to any married couple.  Even if it's dropping your kids off to their grandparents and having a date at your house.  No chores, kids, etc.  Just relaxing and enjoying the love of your life.

Our pastor just finish a series on attraction in marriage and a few of the quotes that stuck out to me as I reviewed my notes were:
  • The grass is always greener where you water it
  • If you don't like what you're getting out of it look what you're putting into it
  • Don't try to do something you were never meant to do alone
Meaning God never intended for you to get married then not need Him.  He's right there beside you.  Helping you.  You just need to reach out to Him.  As we both grow closer to God we are growing closer to each other.  With out that key component in our marriage, it would be impossible to success.
Yes, we were so excited to get home to our little girl! There was lots of cuddling and hugs.

Running is...humbling!

I have goals.
Last year I had goals.
I'm one of those people that need semi set in stone goals.
However I can't manage to commit to this one goal:
a half marathon!

Each year I say, maybe this will be the year I run a half.
My sister has run so many in the last two years,  I even saw her run her first marathon this fall.
Super inspiring, yet I sat there thinking I'll be happy just to finish a half.

And I haven't

Last year I said maybe May, then July, and all hope for October was gone after our crazy summer!
There is always an excuse, always a reason that I don't.
Sickness, weather, moving, kids, lack of motivation, injury, and the list goes on.

I sit here again thinking: maybe this will be the year!

Maybe, always maybe.
Do you know why?

I'm afraid of failure.

What if I tell people I am running a half this year, then I don't?
What if I don't meet my time goal?
What if I start the race and don't finish?
What if I have a panic attack?
What if I'm not "good enough?"

What if...

My initial thought is that I need to stop thinking about a time goal and just be happy to finish.
Then I start to realize that it's deeper then that.
It's not about the time or the race, but the fear of failure and not being good enough.

Lord take away my fear.
Let there be less of me and more of you.
Less fear of man and more dependence on you.

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
-Psalm 139:14

And yet I still can't confirm or deny the fact that I'm training for a 25 this year.
I'm just running, training, preparing, and learning.
If I run the 25k I will be elated, no matter what time I cross the line.
But what I will be more excited about is if I'm still running, even if I don't cross the finish line.
Following through on my goal to honor God with the body he has blessed me with.
That doesn't involve a finish line or a time, just honoring God with my mind, body and soul.

ps how cute is she?

Returning to Normalcy

The last few weeks of my Christmas break have been wonderful.
They've been filled with family, traveling, celebrations, and love.
However, I'm glad we had the last four days to recuperate.

Our family of four has got to relax at home, go sledding, watch movies, cuddle by the fire, reorganize the kids room, play with lots of toys, go on dates and Addi got lots of time with daddy.

This week I've been scheduling my day more with my new planner.
Which so far has translated into planned meals, running and fitness time.
Today we said good bye to our four year old friend that I babysat.
It's bitter-sweet, but we're so excited that she got into her preschool.

The next two weeks with be filled with rest, running, and cuddling.
I'm so excited!  That's my kind of Christmas break.

When the Answer is No

There has obviously been a lot of heartache over the shooting in Connecticut the last week.
Neither of my kids go to school, but I'm more grateful for the time I have with them each day.
Then yesterday we got the phone call, but it wasn't the phone call we were anticipating.

Two and a half weeks ago our family went to a weekend interview at a church.
We were blown away by what an amazing community they had and the connections we made.
Afterward we felt refreshed, on fire to enter ministry, and our heart longed to be there.
Honestly, when the call came we were not expecting the answer to be no.

The few days before there were a few little moments God was showing me that it might be no.
To prepare my heart.
To remind me that He works out the little details.
That He's at work in my heart to prepare me for His plan.

On our way to the interview my husband said, "I don't feel closure leaving the factory, God is going to have to give me a big sign that it's time to move on."

I was blown away!!!!!

This man has been in college for years working to become a youth pastor.
He has worked at a life sucking factory job for almost four years.
And my husband says, "we might have to stay because I don't feel like God's work is finished there."
Thank you Lord for my husband the faithful servant.

God answered Evan's question, he's not done here.
He's still there to influence the lives of his co-worked for His kingdom.

When we got the, "we went with someone else" call.
It felt little like mourning a death.
Happy that we can rejoice in God's plan, but still saddened by our loss.
A deep heartache.

And then it happened, God spoke to my heart.
He convicted me of so many things that matter more in this world.
More then the fact that we have been wanting to move since we got married three years ago.
Even more then living with my in laws for eighteen months, applying for job after job after job.
It breaks my heart that we live two hours from Morgan.

When our life on earth is done will we remember the pain in the trials or
will we rejoicing in who God has molded us into midst of sorrow?
Whose lives we have been able to touch through honoring His name.
Not just honoring, but also thriving in the midst of trial.

Will we let our trial define and consume us, causing depression or self pity?
Or will we honor God and let him shape us even more?

God has put a few things on my heart that need to change in my life.
Things that once were on the forefront, but then life happened.

Exhaustion set in.

I was just getting by.

I want to thrive!

At my grandpa's funeral we sang "Blessed Be Your Name,"
in that moment as a junior in high school it felt like I was losing a lot.
My youth pastor moving, a friend going across the world, my grandpa dying,
my sister moving across the country, relationships severed.
I remember singing that song with such conviction that I will bless His name
when the blessings feel plentiful or when I feel like I'm in a desert.

As soon as we heard no that song was on my heart.
And as I've had time to process I'm realizing even more that though this
might be a desert place for me, I don't have to act like it.
I don't have to just get by with a smile of my face.
I try to have a positive attitude, but my heart longs for when it's our turn.

Lord take those feelings from me.
Remind me of our true blessings.
Remind me of the things that matter more:.
Even when we have little, remind me to give abundantly.
Thank you Lord for speaking to my heart!
Thank you for refreshing my heart through sorrow.

Finding Rest {Matthew 11:28}

Lately I've been absent and not just from this blog.

"Come to me and I will give you rest."
-Matthew 11:28

Life has been beyond chaotic!

I can't remember the last time I ran.
The seasons have changed for our family and I closed my shop.
Play dates aren't happening as often.
But it doesn't matter.

I find joy!

Morning snuggles with my little girl are priceless.
Life is a crazy adventure, but I have the my best friend by my side.
Praying together that God will lead our family.

We have a roof over our head.
Our hearts are filled with love.
There is no need to worry about our future.
God has that under control!

Sometimes I'm just purely exhausted by life!
Lately God has been teaching me to find rest.
In Him.

I've found that in each season of life my rest looks different.
Sometimes crocheting was my rest.
Other times running.
Right now my rest is quiet.

Right now I'm in rest.
Waiting on God.
Crying out to him!
Being filled.
